Summer Field Day 2024: A Triumph for Milton Amateur Radio Club
The Milton Amateur Radio Club (MARC) hosted a remarkable Summer Field Day event on June 22-23, 2024.
This year’s gathering was marked by outstanding participation and success, boasting a total of 48 + attendees, including 20 licensed hams, 27 unlicensed participants, and one General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) operator.
Key Highlights
Testing Success: MARC conducted exams for two candidates during Field Day. One candidate passed the Technician exam, while another successfully upgraded to the Extra class license. Congratulations to both for their achievements!
Participation and Setup: Nine members actively participated in setting up and operating during the event. The group operated under the call sign W4VIY in the 4A category, indicating four simultaneous transmitters.
Power Sources: The club utilized both battery and solar power, earning a 2x power multiplier for their efforts in using alternative power sources.
Celebrating Our Members
James – K9JHR: A special shoutout goes to our club vice-president, James, K9JHR. Not only did he participate as a radio operator, but he also set up his impressive mobile ham-shack.
James went above and beyond by cooking every meal, treating everyone to fresh deep-fried fish, frog legs, hot dogs, homemade chili, and fantastic breakfasts.
James and Hal-WH5AC culinary skills were a highlight of the event, keeping everyone well-fed and energized.
Volunteer Examiners (VEs): Our heartfelt thanks to the VEs who volunteered their time for testing. Club president Charlie, KN4VGY, Steve, W4XSP, Hal, WA5HC, and Mary, KB4JOY, were instrumental in conducting the exams.
Their dedication ensures the growth and continuity of our amateur radio community.
Doug – KE6MYV: A big thank you to Doug, KE6MYV, for bringing out his digital rig.
His setup added a modern touch to our Field Day operations, showcasing the versatility and advancements in amateur radio technology.
Mike – N4MDW: Mike, N4MDW, demonstrated the joys of combining amateur radio with relaxation. His setup, complete with a hammock, showed us all how wonderful life can be with a ham radio and a peaceful rest area.
His innovative approach was inspiring to all participants.
Charlie – KN4VGY: Finally, a massive thank you to Charlie, KN4VGY, our club president, for his relentless efforts in organizing and making these Field Days possible.
His hard work and leadership are the backbone of our club’s success.
Loyal Club Members: A big thank you to all the club members who came early to help set up, stayed to work a station or two, and even brought snacks.
This club has some of the best and most loyal members around. Your dedication and support made the event smooth and enjoyable for everyone involved.
Results and Confirmation
Submission Details: The Field Day entry was successfully updated and submitted, with all required documentation uploaded.
The confirmation number for the entry is 26zjehck. Charles Tow, KN4VGY, submitted the entry, ensuring all details were accurately recorded.
Preliminary Score: The club achieved a preliminary total score of 1,014 points, a testament to the hard work and dedication of all participants.

This year’s event was a perfect blend of learning, sharing, and demonstrating the capabilities of amateur radio.
